CROWN TENANTS

N.Z. EXECUTIVE MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the New Zealand Crown Ttenants’ Association, Inc., w’as held in Timaru yesterday. Those present were Messrs D. C. Kidd (in the chair), Applegarth, J. Bell, E. R. Goulter, J. Reid, H. G. Hanmer, A. E. Kerr, J. Bennett, J. Henderson, C. F. Rose, F. R. Fenwick, J. J. Gregan and C. W. Markham. Correspondence was read from the Minister of Lands, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, regarding altering the law which at present allows a minor interested party or mortgagor to get in ahead of the Mortgagors' Relief Committee and get a Magistrate's sale order, from which there is no right of appeal. It was decided that the secretary forward to Mr Bansom full particulars of one specific case, it being felt that a farmer or tenant should be given every chance to save his farm and home. The Waihao Downs branch submitted a treatise on a better land policy for New Zealand. Several speakers eulogised the branch for the great amount of thought put into the article, which met with unanimous approval. It was agreed at some future date to go through all the remits on the question of the best ideas to build up the future land policy of the Association. As a demonstration farm in the Hunter district will soon be an accomplished fact, it was decided to urge the Government to push forward with a general economic soil survey by a man of the calibre of Mr Forsett, the Government farm economist. It was alleged that most of his time is spent in making economic soil surveys in the North Island. The secretary was instructed to write to the Agricultural Department asking that something along these lines be done in conjunction with the demonstration farm scheme.
