WOMEN’S TOURNEY MISSES GAISFORD AND KAY THE FINALISTS By Telegraph—Press Association WANGANUI, October 18. The seml-flnals of the New Zealand women’s golf championship resulted:— Miss O. Kay defeated Mrs Stout 7 and 6. Miss B. Gaisford defeated Miss Currie 7 and 6. Except for a strong wind at the more exposed positions, conditions were ideal. Both games, however, proved one-sided, and strange to say, both were won at the twelfth hole. Miss Gaisford's experience told the tale in her match with Miss Currie, he Belmont champion, and she won seven and six, after being six up at the turn: Miss Kay showed a return to her best form in her match with Mrs Stout. She was two over bogey on the outward journey, but when the game ended at the twelfth she was equal to bogey. She registered birdies at *he first, tenth and eleventh. Course Record Broken. With the semi-finals concluded early, there did not appear to be much reason to expect that any fireworks would be turned on during the remainder of the day’s play, the only engagement for the contestants being the second bogey handicap and second round of the Rattray Cup, a trophy which goes to the competicor returning the best aggregate in the two bogey matches. Something worth while, however, was provided the spectators who chanced to follow Miss O. Kay and her partner. Miss Barns-Graham, of Gisborne, for the latter turned on splendid golf to return a card of 74, two strokes under bogey and also two under the new record for the course established as recently as last Friday by Mrs Cook, of Castlecliff. On returning to the club house Miss Barns-Graham was accorded an ovation by the competitors and spectators. Her card read: — Out: 54454443 4—37 In: 35355344 5—37 An ovation was also accorded Miss N. Grace, one of the most promising of the young players at Belmont, who went round in the exceptionally good figures of 78. Miss Barns-Graham won the Rattray Cup, being 3 up on bogey on the aggregate, while Mrs J. M. Wilson (Auckland), was runner up, being all square. Next on the list were Miss Rathbone (Auckland) and Miss Holmes (Christchurch). Both 1 down. On the day’s play in the bogey handicap Miss Grace and Miss BarnsGraham finished level 4 up, Miss Grace winning on the count back. In the second division Miss E. Fleetwood was all square, and won the trophy.
