DEATH RIDDLE
WHOSE IS BODY OF BRIDGE VICTIM? United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, October 18. The strange set of circumstances associated with the identity of a harbour bridge victim of September 24, 1932, involve a New Zealander, George Williams (47), of Fapakura, A battered body was found on a concrete road beneath the bridge, and was identified as that of Williams. However, Mrs Williams, a New Zealander, upon being communicated with, was unable to reconcile the description with that of her husband, and Leslie Dunlop, who identified the body as that of Williams, cannot be traced. It is now believed in fact that the claimed body was that of William Lehane, a retired sugar cane worker, who was in ill-health at that time, and had stated that if he contemplated suicide he would throw himself over the bridge to the concrete below, and make a proper job of it. He was last seen the very day (he tragedy occurred with which Williams is linked. Lehane’s relatives, who declare that he possessed a considerable sum of money in the bank, are now considering the question of the administration of his estate.
