ASSAULTS BY FARES
QUESTION OF PROTECTION FOR TAXI-DRIVERS. By TelpgraDh —Presfl Association WELLINGTON. October 18. In the House of Representatives today, Mr A M. Samuel (Ind., Thames) asked whether the Transport Act would be amended to make It compulsory for all taxi-cabs to be fitted with some form of protection for the driver against dangerous passengers. He referred to the recent Auckland tragedy and said that there had been numerous cases throughout the Dominion of drivers being assaulted by fares The Rt. Hon. G W. Forbes said that the question had been under discussion between the Minister of Transport and men engaged in the taxi-cab business, and was still receiving attention.
