SCHOOL COURTS
SUNDAY PLAY PROHIBITED. WELLINGTON, October 18. A motion by the chairman to rescind the resolution that tennis should be allowed on school courts on Sundays, subject to the School Committees' assent, was lost at to-day's meeting of the Education Board. There w T as no discussion, and the voting was the same as that which carried the motion, viz., seven and six. An executive meeting, held last night refused, by four votes to three, a request from the F. v. Bramwell Scott, that the Board should receive a deputation on the matter. The new by-law authorising School Committees to allow Sunday tennis, if they so desire, w r as confirmed by today’s meeting of the Board, and further discussion arose over the position of the Island Bay Tennis Club, whose lease '.,'ith the Board directly prohibits play on Sundays, these courts not being controlled by t.ie School Committee. This matter was deferred for a month pending the expression of legal opinion.
