TEMUKA STOCK SALE

DAIRY CATTLE EASIER. The fortnightly market was held yesterday at Temuka when large entries of all classes of stock came forward. Fat cattle.—The yarding totalled 70 head and a good clearance was made at rates slightly below those ruling at Pleasant Point, which was the best sale to date. The quality was not as good as at the Pleasant Point sale. Values were: Fat steers, best to £lO 12s 6d, medium £5 to £7; fat cows, best to £7, medium £4 10s to £5 10s. Inferior £2 15s to £3 10s. fat heifers £3 to £6 7s 6d, vealers to 30/-. Store cattle.—The entry was larger and of better quality than usual, and prices were on a par with late rates. Sales made were—Bulls £1 to £2 15s, 18-months' heifers 35 - to £2 7s. yearling heifers 20 - to 36 6. empty cows 15/- to £3. 11 yearling heifers (good colours) 36 -, 3-year heifers £3 15s, 2year steers £3 11s, 2-year heifers (good condition' £3 Is. Dairy cattle.—This market was neglected and sales were hard to make, especially for medium and poor quality beasts. The entry was a large one and two dairy herds were sold after the ordinary stock sale. Values were, springing heifers £2 10s to £4 10s. best springing cows to £6. ordinary springing cows £1 to £3. best heifers in profit to £6 15s. ordinary heifers 35/- to £2 17s 6d. best cows in profit to £5 10s. Fat sheep.—Two full races were offered, fat ewes being in greater numbers. The sale was a sound one for good sheep. Anything lacking quality did not meet with the usual competition. The range of prices was best fat ewes to 26 10. medium 21/- to , 23 6. light 12 6 to 18 -, best fat wethers jto 34/-, light 25 - to 26/-, shorn 17/to 18/-, fat hoggets 21/- A few spring lambs were offered, these selling from j 17/- to 18/-, Pigs.—The entry of pigs was again a large one. the sale being about on a par with late rates. Sales made were good weaners 12 - to 15 -, medium 7 '6 to 10/-, store pigs 16/- to 30'-, light fat pigs to 44 -. A sow with litter of eleven realised £5.
