A most enjoyable time was spent by those residents of Motukaika and surrounding districts who gathered in Mr Amyes’s woolshed on Wednesday evening, under the auspices of the Longridge School Committee, to say farewell to Mr and Mrs Vernon Bowker, who have sold their farm. A willing band of helpers had transformed the hall with bush greenery and gaily coloured streamers, while numerous black cats assured the guests of the good wishes of the gathering. Apologies were received from Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., Mr A. S. Elworthy and Mr G. Squire. After supper the chairman, Mr John Crawford, spoke of the loss suffered by the district in the removal of Mr Bowker, eulogising his qualities as a farmer and as a neighbour. Messrs Linton and Connor supported his remarks. Mr Amyes was then called upon to present the guest with an oak dinner waggon and a chiming clock as mementoes from the residents. Mr Bowker, who was greeted with musical honours, suitably replied on behalf of his wife and himself. ♦l* *j» .j, *», ♦*« ,J, *j.
