SERIOUS COLLISION
R. HAZELHURST AND FIANCEE HURT. By Telegraph— Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 18. Injured in a collision with a taxi at the corner of Ferry Road and Fitzgerald Avenue last evening, Mr R. Hazelhurst, the Canterbury representative Rugby footballer, and his fiancee. Miss Dulcie Cameron, are now in hospital in a serious condition. Both were unconscious when admitted, and at an early hour this morning were still in that condition. Mr Hazelhurst resides at Vincent Street, Opawa, and Miss Cameron at Marden Street, Heathcote. The accident occurred at 10.10 p.m. Mr Hazelhurst was riding a motorcycle and had Miss Cameron as a passenger on the pillion seat. They had attended a concert at the Civic Theatre, and were travelling out of . the city along Ferry Road. The taxi was proceeding along Fitzgerald Avenue from north to south, making in the direction of Moorhouse Avenue. The collision occurred near the centre of the intersection. Mr Hazelhurst was thrown forward and his head and shoulders were pre-' cipitated through the pane of glass in the rear right-hand window. Miss Cameron struck her head on the upper portion of the car. The occupants of the taxi, besides the driver, were three members of the crew of H.M.A.S. Canberra. All escaped injury. The taki was damaged on the rear of the driving side and the glass in all the windows on that side was shattered. The motor-cycle was also badly damaged. Marked improvement was shown early this evening in the condition of Hazelhurst, and although he was still semi-conscious, he had been removed from the seriously ill list. The condition of Miss D. Cameron had not shown any improvement, and she is Critically ill.
