GANGSTER TRAP
EXCITING GETAWAY OF KIDNAPPERS. SEQUEL TO DEMAND FOR BIG RANSOM. United Press Association— By Electrlo . Telegraph—Copyright CHICAGO, August 18. Two gangsters, believed to be members of a Widely-ramified kidnapping gang, made a sensational escape from an elaborate trap, laid by Federal agents. Armed with machine guns, the gangsters had demanded a further 50,000 dollars from Jake Factor, who enlisted the aid of the police. A detective disguised as a messenger boy, was given the money to take to the roadside resort, when he paid the money over. He was to give a signal to an aeroplane, which, in turn, was to radio the police, to block all roads in the vicinity. The kidnappers took the money and started away in an automobile. The aeroplane broadcast a warning, when the pilot dipped low and started firing at the automobile, with a machine gun. Meanwhile a score of police, in automobiles, went into action, fired upon and wrecked the gangsters' car, but tlj occupants succeeded in gaing their freedom on foot, through the underbrush. It is now stated that only a few bills were given the gangsters, for the purposes of evidence if caught, and not the whole 50,000 dollars demanded.
