SUDDEN DEATH
TRAGIC HAPPENING AT A BALL. Ernest Reginald Clark, aged about 23, son of Mr William Clark, carpenter, Rhodes Street, Waimate, who was employed by Messrs Russell and Kane electricians, died suddenly at the Olympia Hall, Waimate, at about 10 o'clock last night, during the progress of the Oddfellows ball. He was engaged as a member of the orchestra, and had, It is understood, climbed to adjust the spotlight for a twilight dance. On descending he complained to a fellow musician, Miss Jessie Jacobs, of being ill, and asked her lo hold him up. He collapsed In a chair and died almost immediately. Up till about eight months ago he had been under treatment in the Waimate Hospital for a long period after an attack of rheumatic fever.
