ANTIMONY POISONING

SOME ENAMELLED WARE DANGEROUS. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, August 17. Following the publication of a memorandum issued by the Minister of Health, London, drawing attention to the danger of antimony poisoning by using enamelled vessels of inferior quality, the Department of Health, in conjunction with the Dominion analyst, has examined a wide variety of enamelled ware of different brands cn the market. It was found that much of this enamel ware contains fairly easily soluable antimony compounds. However, some brands, including two British, were free from antimony. The Department considers that purchasers of enamel ware would be well advised to obtain a guarantee that such goods will give up no antimony in food or acids contained or prepared In them, particularly fruits or liquids of an acid nature. In other respects there is no danger whatever from the use of enamelled ware for holding and cooking foodstuffs.
