DRAMATIC REPLY TO ITALY
POWERFUL CUSTOMS UNION FORMING. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 25, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 24. “The Manchester Guardian” says: “Negotiations have begun in London for the formation of an Economic Federation, including Austria, Hungary, the Little Entente, Bulgaria and perhaps Poland. “The proposal is a counter move to Signor Mussolini’s scheme for an Austro-German union under the Hapsburgs, which M. Daladier (Prime Minister of France) has practically killed.” The Federation will probably take the form of a customs union or a low tariff agreement, and possibly include a currency agreement.
