COLLINS BENEFIT CONCERT

BOX PLAN OPENS MONDAY. A most attractive and varied programme has been arranged for the grand benefit concert next Thursday in the Theatre Royal in aid of the family of the late Mr P. L. Collins. Assisted by several leading local artists, the combined efforts of the Municipal Band, the Orchestral Society, and the Catholic Dramatic Club assure for all patrons a treat. The Band’s principal number will be the grand selection from Meyerbeer’s opera, “L’Etoile du Nord” (“The Star of the North”), which is full of life and a most descriptive composition. The well-known march “Dunedin,” by Kenneth Alford, will also be played. The Orchestra, by special request, will present Weber’s "Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra,” with Mr W. C. Burke as solo clarinet. This number proved most popular at the recent concert given by the Orchestral Society, Mr Burke receiving well merited praise for his fine performance. The “Turkish Patrol” will also be played by the Orchestra. This is a most descriptive piece, depicting the approach and passing of a Turkish mounted patrol. The talented members of the Catholic Dramatic Club will present two short plays, “Home at Last,” and “A Marriage has been Arranged.” The assisting artists will be Miss Lilian McDonald, Mrs F. H. Ruddenklau, and Messrs G. H. Andrews, R. Richards, L. C. Andrew and' J. Duncan. The Band and the Orchestra will be under the conductorship of Mr W. H. Osborne, and Mrs G. A. Martin will act as accompaniste. Box plan opens at Begg’s on Monday morning.
