FOOTBALL TO-DAY. Temuka seniors will play Old Boys at Temuka this afternoon. So far the Temuka team has not met defeat, but supporters will remember the surprise Old Boys created last year when they beat the home team on the Temuka ground. It is not known whether Temuka will be at full strength, as both Blyth and Connolly have been on the injured list. A fast game should result. Temuka fourths and Technical should provide a good curtain-raiser.

ST. JOSEPH’S CONVENT JUBILEE. St. Joseph’s Convent, Temuka, will celebrate the fiftieth year of its existence in October, and the preliminary steps to the observance of the jubilee are now in hand.

St. Joseph’s Convent in Temuka was the first in the Order to be established in New Zealand with Sister Raymond in charge, assisted by Sister Immaculata and Sister Calanactius. These Sisters were brought to New Zealand, from Sydney, by the late Father Fauvel, and immediately took up their work in Temuka. The convent was founded in October, 1883, and from it have sprung 25 convents of the Order in New Zealand, with 147 Sisters; Sister Raymond, who died, in Auckland on May 4th, 1917, was later Provincial of New Zealand.

St. Joseph’s Order was first founded in Australia by Mother Mary Killop, and the present Mother General of the Order is an old Temuka girl, Miss Mary Elkis. Mother Elkis js expected in Temuka for the jubilee. Last year she attended Dublin for the Eucharistic Congress. She left Temuka at the age of 14 years to enter the Order.

GENERAL NEWS. A light frost was felt in Temuka yesterday morning. The day was dull though fine. The evidence of speed given in Court by Inspector Ashwell in the case against J. W. Jennings (Christchurch), showed that the speed was 50 miles an hour, not 55 as published. A lamb was seen on the property ;'f Mr A. E. Dobson, Orton, yesterday. This is the first new season’s lamb reported in that district. ALL BRITISH PROGRAMME. Tom Walls’s latest successful romantic comedy, “Leap Year,” is the attraction at Temuka to-day. Though he more or less carries the story on his own shoulders) Walls is assisted by a capable and excellent cast, including Anne Grey, Jeanne Stuart, Edmund Breon, and Ellis Jeffreys. The sparkling story concerns the entanglement of Sir Peter Traillon with a charming blonde, who, knowing of his dalliance, takes advantage of Leap Year, and proposes to him. All the while he 's seeking a beautiful unknown woman whom he met four years previously. Fate decrees that the two women should meet, and it requires all Sir Peter’s diplomatic skill to escape from many piquant situations and find happiness. The box plan is at McMillan's. ’Phone 52.

Mr E. Cholerton, proprietor of John R. Procter’s Ltd., the Premier Opticians, Christchurch, will next be visiting Temuka on July Bth. Appointments can now be made by ringing the U.F.S. Dispensary, No. 240 M.
