ENDEAOUR SEA SCOUTS.

Many and great events have occurred since the notes last appeared in print. The Seamanship Shield, presented by the officers and ship’s coy. of H.M.S. Endeavour, has been competed for and won by Bos’n G. Strachan. The second and third places were rewarded by the presentation of two knives. The Harbourmaster, Captain MacDougall was the examiner in the theoretical portion and Captain McLauchlan, the master of No. 350 was the examiner in the practical test. There was, accoring to the examiner, little difference between the competitors but the best man won.

The Cornwall Shield for inter-watch rowing was also competed for on the King’s Birthday which was a full day for all in the Company.

After a keen and evenly, matched contest the Shield was won by the Red Watch in the time of 7mins. 20secs, the Blue’s were second with 7mins. 32secs. and the White Watch brought up the rear with the time of 7mins. 50secs. After a swim, as a refresher the crews and on-lookers repaired to Headquarters where several “greenhorns” were initiated as Sea Scouts.

The Shields were presented and also a welcome surprise awaited us—no, not tea yet! Mrs. Brown, one of the ladies of the committee, had made a wonderful Union Jack which she formally presented to the Troop. Then came the tea, a sumptuous repast, provided by the ladies of the committee.

After tea, the meeting broke up and all dispersed after a full and happy afternoon.

But alas! A misfortune has overtaken us!

Our Group Scoutmaster, Mr. Brown, has, owing to pressure of other business, been forced to resign. This is a great loss to the company. His efforts and his unselfishness in giving up his spare time to the good of the Troop was worthy of much appreciation. Mr. Culbert has for the present taken over but we feel certain that Mr. Brown will continue to have an interest in the Company.

On Sunday the 18th of this month a race was held, with a crew of cadets from the “Northumberland.” The race was from the end of the extension to No. 2 wharf and was pulled for in two “Montague” whalers of the “Northumberland.” The. race was pretty close and the “Northumberland’s” crew only won by about a boat’s length. The time was 9mins. 2sec. this being fast, considering the heavy seas and the adverse tide. After the race the “Endeavour’s” crew were kindly invited along by the cadets to some refreshment, consisting of good old ginger pop, and “yards of it.”
