WEDDING

MAHAN—ROBERTSON. The marriage w’as celebrated recently of Eleanor (Nellie), elder daughter of the late Mr and Mrs William Robertson, of Timaru. to John Valentine, younger son of Mrs Mahan, also of Timaru. The ceremony at which Archdeacon H. W. Monaghan officiated, was a very quiet one, taking place at St. Mary’s Church, Timaru, with Mr A. W. Vine at the organ.

A friend of the bride, Mr Douglas Halkett, escorted her to the altar. She wore a gown, simply fashioned of ivory satin. The bodice, with long close sleeves puffed at the upper arm showed a deep vandyked shaped yoke, set almost to the waist, and finished at the back with a soft bow; the frock then drooping into folds about her feet. In continaution of the skirt a panel opened out at the back into a short train; over which fell the embroidered tulle veil, lent by Mrs Halkett. A chaplet of orange blossom was worn with the veil, with a cluster of blossom introduced at either side of the head, and the bride held an armlet of white chrysanthemums and orchids. The bride’s sister, Miss Enid Robertson, attended her wearing * a frock of cameo pink silk crushed velvet. A deep yoke of Limerick lace was formed over the shoulders and extended into short puff sleeves. A fold of the fabric caught loosely by a diamante buckle, indicated the waist, the skirt then falling to the heels of pink velvet slippers. A wide felt hat was swathed with velvet ribbon, and long mittens and a Victorian posy of pink carnations were dainty accessories. Mr Stewart Cameron, cousin of the bride, assisted as best man.

After the ceremony a small reception was held at the Stafford, where Mrs E. Cameron of Christchurch, aunt of the bride, acted as hostess. She wore a graceful gown of silver grey crepe woollen morocain, relieved with touches of red, and a black hat. Red chrysanthemums were in her bouquet. A gown of black ring velvet with a smart detachable cape and a black hat, were worn by Mrs J. Mahan, the bridegroom’s mother, her posy being of pink chrysanthemums. When Mr and Mrs J. Mahan left for the south on their wedding tour, the bride was wearing a tailored costume of diagonal cloth in chanel blue, accompanied by a crepe de chene jumper blouse and felt hat in pale grey tints with brown fox furs.
