While the vote was being taken Mr Buchanan (Glasgow) hurled a taunt at the front Opposition bench, which Mr Neil Maclean resented. The words “cur,” and “liar” were interchanged. Mr Maclean, rising, rushed to strike Mr Buchanan, who rose to meet him. Mr J. Maxton, however, intervened, and pulled Mr Maclean back to his seat, while the Conservatives held Mr Buchanan, thus preventing a fight on the floor of the House, The two Labour members continued to exchange angry taunts, until the re-entry of the Speaker ended the scene.
