IMPORTANT PAPERS READ. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright VANCOUVER, June 12. Addressing the Science Congress, Mr Edwin Cheel, of Sydney, stated that Australia had imported more than 800 plant species, some of which had proved commercial assets. Others were dangerous pests. Papers were read by representatives of Canada, the United States, Malaya and Japan showing similar results. Dr. Max Henry (New South Wales Department of Agriculture) read a paper on pleuro-pneumonia among the herds of Pacific countries. A .paper by Dr. P. Marshall, of Wellington, dealt with the physiography of New Zealand, and a paper by Dr. C. Kidson (Wellington) dealt with observations in the upper atmosphere in relation to airship navigation. Information on the life of the Maori was contained in a paper forwarded by Sir Apirana Ngata.
