In England and Wales the installation of traffic light signals has up to the present released 553 constables from traffic duty. Out of 510,654 candidates examined during 1932 for the French driving licence, 316,837 were successful. Successful candidates included 28,217 women out of 47,970 who presented themselves for examination.

The 1932 registrations of cars in Australia showed that 34 per cent, ■were British cars compared with 19 per cent, in 1931. In Tasmania 46.6 per cent, were British cars and in South Australia, 44 per cent.

The proposal that heavy lorries should have amplifiers so that the drivers can hear the horns of overtaking vehicles is put forward by the French Motor Manufacturers’ Association. This body urges the fitting of pneumatic tyres, efficient driving mirrors, and lights denoting their full width to all heavy transport vehicles. It is further recommended that narrow and very winding roads be prohibited to heavy traffic, but that, on ordinary roads speeds be not limited further than the 31 m.p.h. recently fixed for vehicles more than 7ft. 4in. wide.
