EX-WORLD CHAMPION BEATEN. BAER DEFEATS SCHMELLING. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, June 8. Max Baer defeated Max Schmelling on a technical knock-out in the tenth of a scheduled fifteen rounds heavyweight boxing contest. The attendance reached 65,000.
Baer’s Superiority. Displaying terrific punching power, Baer caught the former world champion with a barrage of rights to the chin in the ninth, the Teuton tottering groggily after the bell. Coming out savagely to finish the German in the tenth round. Baer loosed a volley of rights and floored Schmelling for the count of nine. Schmelling came up gamely, but helpless, and Baer smashed him from one side of the ring to the other, before the referee stopped the bout. had 1321 b advantage.
The betting was 35 to cne in Schmelling’s favour. Baer ha& the lead throughout.
