DESIRE FOR PEACE IN ORIENT
ARMISTICE TERMS HONQURED JAPAN’S GESTURE OF GOODWILL United Press Association—By Electn* Telegraph—Copyright (Received June 9, 5.5 p.m.) PEKING, June 9. While it will probably take some time to liquidate the military situation, genuine efforts to carry the Tangku Armistice into effect appear to be under way. One noticeable instance of the improved feeling was the arrival in Peking of a Japanese aeroplane carrying an officer detailed by the Japanese Army to offer condolences over the Chinese loss of life in the recent hostilities.
Meanwhile, foreign despatches report that Japanese troops have begun withdrawing northward from Chinwamgtao. On the Chinese side, rapid progress is reported to the work of winding up war time organisations, and transferring troops back to the provinces.
