AUCKLAND “PLAN”

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE STANDS ALOOF. By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, June 8. The Chamber of Commerce Council, on the casting vote of the chairman, to-day rejected a motion that the Council, without questioning the sincerity of those associated with this week’s deputation to Mr Coates, dissociate itself as a body from the financial proposals submitted until an opportunity is riven for the fullest consideration. The president (Mr H. Turner) said the Chamber was not involved. He had declined an invitation, because he knew what the proposals were. The chairman of the Transport Board, Mr J. A. C. Allum, who was one of the deputation, said its sole aim was to try to help, if the Chamber did not want to support the deputation, it should at least not put grit in the wheels. Another member of the deputation said he did not know the nature of the proposals, which were such that he could not support them. The nature of the scbpme was a surprise to a great many people.
