SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the School Committee took place on Tuesday night. Present: Messrs F. Smith. S. Cargo, T. Fitzgerald H. Brosnahan. and the headmaster. Mr A. G. Williams In the absence of the chairman, the deputy chairman (Mr Smith) occupied the chair The headmaster’s report was as follows:—The roll was increasing, there being an admittance of eight new dupils at the beginning of the terms. A similar number were restricted from attending owing to the age limit The cocoa club had been started again, and there were 30 pupils receiving cocoa daily. Two balls had been procured for the pupils to play with in drill games and daily pastimes. The Board’s foreman had attended to one of the chimneys, which was now working satisfactorily A large quantity of wood required to be carted before further wet weather sets in A number of library books had been donated to the school by Mrs Horwell, and further supplies of old school prizes would be appreciated. The infant mistress required a number of cheap historical readers to aid her in her work The school garden plots had been dug and a supply of oats was required for sowing down. The posts and gates around the school property had been put in alignment, but springs were necessary to keep them closed. The floor at the school was in need of renewal, and application to the Board should be made to have the work carried out during the Christmas vacation. The football posts had been shifted owing to their proximity to barb wire fence. The term examination revealed satisfactory orogress by the majority of the oupils The caretakers report stated that new brooms were needed, and chat a supply of coke had been received. The school had received its usual cleaning out during the vacation The reports were received, and it was decided to obtain the necessaries required, including a fresh supply of firewood.

TENNIS. A meeting of the Executive took place in the school on Wednesday evening. Mr Cain being in the chair The meeting was called to arrange a dance, when the trophies won at the last tournament will be presented The winners were Misses Liddle and Hickey, and the runners up Miss Rule and Mr Topham. The receipts from the ""imament were satisfactory.
