WEDDING

GIBSON—EAST. On June 1. at St. Mary’s Church. New Plymouth, a wedding of interest to South Canterbury people was celebrated when Sheila Joan, younger daughter of T and Mrs Cuthbert East, New Pl-mouth, was married to Norman Parau Gibson, of Kaimiro, fourth son of the late Mr and Mrs John Gibson. The ceremony was conducted by Archdeacon Gavin, the organist being Mr R. Neville Renaud. Owing to the serious illness of the bride’s father, who at one time was managing-editor of “The Timaru Post.” only immediate relatives were present. Th bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr Geoffr-y East, wore a graceful gown of pearl white panne embossed georgette over satin beaute, cut in a simple style with cowl neckline and Elizabethan sleeves. The skirt fitted closely to the knees, then fell in soft folds to the ground. Her veil of embroidered tulle, which had been worn by her mother, was set well back on the head and caught over each ear with a cluster of orange blossoms; her bouquet was of white roses and maidenhair fern. Miss Margaret East attended her sister as bridesmaid and wore a frock of delphinium blue chiffon velvet, cut on similar lines to that of the bride, with yoke and sleeve puffs of rose beige angel skin lace. Her rose beige felt hat was banded with blue, and she carried a beautiful bouquet of pink flowers and fern. Mr lan Gibson. Wellington, was the best man. Mrs East received her guests wearing a smart gown of black chiffon velvet, with scarf collar and tiny elbow puffs of multi-coloured brocade. Her hat was of black felt and velvet, and she carried a posy of violets. Mrs Norman Gibson travelled in a smart caped frock of emerald crepe afgalaine, with turban hat of felt and velvet. Nigger shoes and gloves and a fox fur completed the ensemble.
