SWIMMING

WEST END CLUB. Favoured with fine weather, the West End Club held a successful series of races at the West End Baths on Tuesday evening. The events were well contested, nearly all the active members taking part in swimming or diving. Three hundred onlookers occupied the seats. The winners of the events were: — 33 1-3 YARDS JUNlOß—Lawrence Lyttle 1, Miss M. Latimer 2, J. Drummond 3. 50 YARDS SENIOR —A. Odey 1, E. Guildford 2 Len Hunt 3. JUNIOR DIVE —lan Davis (Christchurch) 1. Miss Joyce Pike 2, Miss Betty Wotbei-spooE 3. Nine competitors gave a very fine exhibition of plain diving. 50 YARDS LADIES —Miss M. Callaghan 1, Miss H. McKay 2, Miss Jean Hurdley 3. SENIOR DIVE —D. Elder and John Lobb (equal' 1, L. Hunt 3, A. Macdonald 4. This event was keenly contested by nine competitors. 66 2-3 YARDS DUAL RELAY—Miss Margaret Alins and John Duncan 1. A. odey and Miss Callaghan and I. Gillan 'and Miss J. Hurdley (equal) 2. 133 1-3 YARDS TEAM RACE —B Team (A. Odey, lan Gillan, S. Rendall, and A. C. Rendall) 1. A Team (L. Hunt, D. Gillan, E. Guildford and D. Elder) 2. Ti.is team will represent the West End Cub at Ashburton carnival on Saturday evening in the Mrs Newton Cup race over 100 yards.
