LET’S SMILE !
There is trouble all over the world to-day; Nothing seems to go quite the right way. Though Christmas is very near at hand Depression prevails o’er all the land. One sees a face so long and sad; Thinks he, “Oh, dear! Things Must be bad!” And he gets glum and gloomy, too. And tells his troubles all to you. You think of all the trials you’re having— —Forget to be generous—become too saving, And you are afraid to spend a penny, And your face becomes as long as any! —But what help is this look of despair That is seen on faces here and there? It won’t make the world any brighter, Or help to make our burdens lighter! Alas! It only adds to their weight, Till things are in a terrible state! But there’s one thing—it costs nothing to give, That makes the world a good place to live. A thing that conquers all wrinkles and frowns. And on each countenance cheeriness gowns. —A thing which woes and worries beguile— Have you guessed that this is just a Smile? (5 Marks and a Merit Card awarded to “Anderson's Joe,” Betty Hammond, Four Peaks.)
