REVIVED STYLES FOR HAIR.

Long hair or short for women?— which do men prefer? says an exchange. One of the most popular of the new styles, judging by what is to be seen at the Hairdressing Fair, opened at Olympia recently by Miss Gladys Cooper, is a style in tight short curls. It is Roman in origin, and was inspired by a bust of the Emperor Titus, which is in the Louvre, Paris.

An elaborately-staged fantasy of fashion is being presented daily at the Fair. It shows the goddess Mermea—fair, and with tresses reaching to her waist—and the short-haired Hydrea, Goddess of Freedom,' appealing to Apollo for his verdict. To assist him in his judgement 50 girls, blondes and brunettes, show hair-dressing fashions of the la-st 5000

years. Among them there are: The Egyptian bob, the first known style of hairdressing. Fantastic head-dresses of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Short-curly heads of to-day. Mermea expresses the modern trend when she yields to her rival and cuts her golden tresses. The model who takes the part of Mermea wears a wig, for although a wide search was made, no girl could be found with waist-length golden hair.

IF YOU FRECKLE Even two or three days of summer sunshine will bring out a crop of freckles on a woman with a fine, delicate skin. For the finer the skin the more easily it freckles, and the more difficult it is to remove the blemish. A bleach which would soon clear them from a thicker, coarser complexion would be far too strong for use on a soft skin. Olive oil, to which simple tincture of benzoin has been added, in the proportion of an ounce of oil to ten drops of benzoin, is the best preparation for preventing freckles. Rub a little of the mixture into the face and neck before applying vanishing cream and powder. There need be no fear that the oil will make the face look greasy; the addition of the benzoin will prevent this.

The simplest and quickest way to remove freckles from the average skin is to paint them with a mixture of equal parts of strained lemon juice (which must be quite fresh), rosewater, and glycerine. Paint this on with a fine camel’s hair brush, allowing it to dry on each freckle. This will be an effective bleach for all light and recently acquired freckles.
