“The blackbird is responsible for an enormous amount of damage in the country,” said Mr M. T. Booker at a meeting of the Manukau County Council. “There will have to be an extensive campaign to exterminate the bird,” he added. He said that on a large area growing strawberry plants this season, insufficient berries had been gathered to provide a meal, owing to the depredations of blackbirds.
