BAY CARNIVAL

OPENING ON MONDAY, During the past week parts of Caroline Bay have been undergoing a change, and many willing workers have been engaged in erecting stalls, riding devices, etc., for the pleasure and enjoyment of residents and visitors during the holiday period. When everything is completed a pleasing sight will meet the eye, special attention having been given to the decorations of stalls, etc., and at night the festoons of coloured lights and special flood lighting of various areas will make a wonderful display. The Carnival, under the auspices of the Caroline Bay Association, will be officially opened on Monday next at 2.15, when the Mayor and Rev. C. Carr, M.P., will deliver short speeches and declare the function open. After that ceremony the “Joy Germs’’ concert party will give their initial programme of music and song. All children are invited to participate in the races which will commence at 10.30 on Monday next on the south side of the Rotunda, and will be held each morning thereafter until the conclusion of the Carnival. At 3.30 each afternoon, the children will be able to show their skill at sand modelling, except on Thursday afternoon. the 29th inst. when the children’s fancy dress dance will take place in the Bay Hall. A host of enticing prizes have been allotted for this function.

The side shows, which are always a big attraction of all carnivals, will provide the adults with plenty of amusement, and no one will be satisfied unless he or she is the possessor of one of the special Bay boxes of chocolates.

The Bay Hall has been transformed, an entirely new' idea of decoration having been installed, and dancers cannot but enjoy themselves in such delightful surroundings. A special hat and cloak room is available at a small fee for the safe custody of these articles.

During the carnival, the Municipal Band, Municipal Junior Band, and Highland Pipe Band will appear each evening, and radio items of interest will be broadcast, including the second cricket test.

The riding devices are grouped in one area, and the enjoyment to be obtained from these attractions by both young and old is well merited. The whole of the project is functioned by voluntary helpers, and the bigger the success of the Carnival the larger will be the amount made available for the alleviation of distress caused by unemployment.
