The hail was decorated with greenery and balloons, and the large assemblage spent an enjoyable time. PERSONAL. Miss Karin Scannell, Temuka, was taken suddenly ill on Tuesday in Christchurch and was admitted to St George’s Hospital where an immediate operation was performed. Her condition at present is satisfactory. GENERAL NEWS. Shopkeepers in Temuka yesterday were busy affixing greenery to the fronts of their business premises. The Progress League were responsible for the collection of the plants, some of which came from the Domain and some from private residences. The appearance of the greenery, with the coloured lights extended above, was very favourably commented upon last evening. “SPLINTERS IN THE NAVY.’’ The “Splinters” Concert Party made history in the Great War; they repeated it in the film "Splinters,” and they add yet another page in their book of fame in "Splinters in the Navy,” the British Dominions’ Film which st at Temuka to-day. The cast includes Lew Lake, Hal. Jones and Reg. Stone, not forgetting the world famed “beauty chorus.” The most hilarious moments are provided by Sydney Howard as Joe Crabbs, A. 8.. who sketches a sailorman of timed character and very grotesque habits, who stumbles from one embarrassment to another, finally culminating in a fight for the heavyweight championship of the Navy, for which he has Issued a challenge at the instigation of a maiden ashore. There will be a matinee to-day at 2.15 p.m., children under 14 years will be admitted free. HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS. For those who enjoy a day’s fishing, little is left to be desired as far as rivers in the Temuka district are concerned. The claim that the fishing offered is equal to any in New Zealand has been conceded by anglers from over a wide area.
A never-failing source of interest to Temuka residents, and a source of delight to visitors, is the Domain. At present the Domain appears as a splash of colour, relieved by a wealth of neatly trimmed green lawns. To the south of the Domain is the motor camp, regarded as being one of the most up-to-date and comfortable in the district. The manuka fence on the southern boundary has been completed, and it is safe to say that the large number of campers who visited the camp last year will be considerably
added to this year. In addition to the above attractions, tennis, croquet, bowling, and swimming will, as in the past, claim their quota of supporters.
John R. Procter's representative will he visiting Temuka on February 18th, and may be consulted on all defects of eyesight at the Crown Hotel on that .late
