NUKUROA-WILLOWBRIDGE BAND OF HOPE. The monthly meeting of the combined Nukuroa-Willowbridge Band of Hope was held in the Willowbridge Hall on August 12th. there being- present a large number of children and a fair sprinkling of adults. The chair was occupied by Mr James Stark. The speaker for the evening was Rev. J. Tennent, who was greeted with applause at the conclusion of a most effective temperance address. An item of great merit which demanded a double encore, was an instrumental duet by Messrs E. Saunders (guitar), and W. Saunders (violin). Miss Williams, a visitor to the district, demonstrated her ability at club swinging and received a well-deserved recall. The accompanistes were Mrs R. Hayman and Miss Winnie Aiming. The judges of the competition were Rev. J. Tennent and Mrs A. B. Hayman. The following took part in the programme: Pianoforte solo. Miss Winnie Anning; vocal trio. Ula Rollenson and Ellen and A. Wilson: song, Mrs H. Hayman (encore); club swinging, Miss Williams; vocal duet, Misses Elsa and Alice Meyers; address, Rev. J. Tennent; instrumental duet, Messrs Ernie and Frank Saunders; recitations, Clara Eathorne, Jessie Butters, Cissie Eathorne, Jean Scarlet, Margaret Sullivan. Miss Betty Reynolds, Frank Butters, Jack Borthwick, Jack Scarlet, Robert Borthwick, Len Scarlet, lan Hayman and Robin Butters.
