FAMOUS MADAME HANAU IN THE PICTURE. QUESTIONABLE PRESS TACTICS. United Press Association—By Elec trio Telegraph—Copyright (Received April 10, 5.5 p.m.) PARIS. April 9. As it was believed she was about to publish in her financial weekly paper “Forces,” details from a secret document, lost from the office of the Finance Minister (M. Flandin), the police arrested the famous Madame Hanau, on a charge of theft of public documents. She is also accused of attempting to depress the Stock Exchange by articles professing to expose the real motive behind M. Tardieu’s Danube plan. It is recalled that Madame Hanau was charged with fraud in connection with her “Gazette du France,” and was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. She had already served eighteen months in prison, and was then released, when she lodged an appeal, which is pending. ISSUE OF PAPER CONFISCATED. STARTLING ALLEGATIONS REVEALED. Tardieu’s plan aims at securing loans for the Danube States, for the purpose of enriching French armament manufacturers.
