ST. ANDREWS.
HARVEST THANKSGIVING. A very large congregation, many of whom could not find seating accommodation, attended a special harvest thanksgiving service conducted by the Rev. A. J. H. Dow of Trinity Church, Timaru. in the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church last Sunday afternoon. The speaker took his text from Deuteronomy, chapter 26, verses 2 and 4. The Trinity choir, with Mr D. Parkyn at the organ, led the music, the choir of thirty voices rendering the following anthems “Praise the Lord O Jerusalem,” “The Magnificat” (Stanford in B flat), “Fear Not O Land” (Elgar), “Nunc Dimittis” (Stanford in B flat). After the service the visitors from Timaru were entertained to afternoon tea in the Young People’s Hall by the ladies of the church, and later a visit was paid to the Manse garden. FLOWER SHOW. A meeting of the St. Andrews Flower Show Society was held on Saturday, and the following committee was appointed:—President, Rev. D. N. Pryor; secretary, Mr D. France; Committee, Mesdames Lyall, Mcllwrick, Russell, L. Bishop, Hewson, Johnston, S. Winchester, Miss Bremner and Messrs Russell, Lyall, Hall, A. Ward, W. J. Bennett, Craig, and A. Robinson. Arrangements for holding a spring flower show in October were finalised. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the St. Andrews School Committee was held on Monday. Present —Mr C. Dix (chairman), D. Stowell, G. A. Wieke, G. Cosgrove and C. L. Hoskin (secretary). The headmaster’s report showed that the roll number was 89 and the average attendance 76. It was decided to request the Education Board to undertake some necessary repairs to the school, particularly a tank which was leaking, and the floor which in one room was unsound. Arrangements were completed to hold a euchre party and dance each Saturday night, in aid of the school funds. J. F. Mangos, 8.D.5., Dental Surgeon, will visit St. Andrews every sale day, and will be in attendance at the Church of England Hall from 9 am. Appointments may be made with Mr R. L. Pugh
