Miss Maude Wilson, Bid will Street, has returned from a visit to Tekapo. Mrs H. Kennedy has left on a holiday visit to Dunedin. Mrs A. A. Scott, Bidwill Street, has returned from a visit to Tekapo. Mrs Colin Gilray, Dunedin, is staying at “Cadogan,” Ssfton Street. Mrs H. H. Harris, Wai-iti Road, is the guest of Mrs Lionel Mansell, Christchurch. Miss B. Hodge and Sister Dick, who have been staying at Beverley House, have returned to Dunedin. Mr.: J. Temple. Highfield, who has been spending a holiday at Geraldine, is expected home to-day. Mr and Mrs Bernard Hill, Christchurch. are the guests of the Misses Oliver, Surrey Downs, Pleasant Point. Professor J. Rankine Brown and Mrs Rankine Brown, who had been staying at The Hermitage, have returned to Wellington. Mrs R. Temple, “Dunglass,” Cattle Valley, and Miss Peggy Chapman, Salisbury, have returned from a trip to the Franz Josef Glacier. Miss Murray, Bidwill Street, who has been in Christchurch for the past two months returned to Timaru on Tuesday. Archdeacon A. Hansell and Mrs Hansell. Wellington, arrived yesterday to stay with Mrs P. A. Elworthy, Gordon’s Valley. Mrs J. E. Sheahan, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs L. J. Wood. Seddon Street, has returned to Stratford. Mrs and Miss Nottingham, who are the guests of Mrs F. A. Raymond, Beverley Road, will return to Christchurch to-day. Miss Grace Buchanan, Hataitai, Wellington, is spending a few days as the guest of Miss Bettie Whitcombe, Bank of New South Wales. Sir Louis and Lady Barnett, Dunedin, who have been on a visit to England, returned to Wellington by the Remuera on Sunday. Mr and Mrs F. M. Dennehy, Greymouth, and Miss Dennehy, North Street, who have been on a visit to Europe, returned to New Zealand by the Makura on Monday. Sub-Inspector and Mrs T. Gibson, Auckland, who have been visiting Mr and Mrs J. Gibson, Sherwood, spent a few days in Timaru and were the guests of Mr and Mrs T. W. Lynch. Mrs Raymond Appleby, Lindis Pass, wkj was the guest of Mrs G. H. Ussher, Sefton Street, returned home yesterday, accompanied by her sister, Mrs Roxby, Oamaru, who returned this week from a trip to England. Women have had books dedicated to them from the earliest ages; they have generally been poems, essays or novels. It was left for Lord Melchett to dedicate to Gwen, his wife, a book on economics. In connection with the New Zealand tennis championship tournament being held in Auckland at present, it is interesting to note that in the history of New Zealand tennis five women players have accomplished the feat of winning three events, singles, doubles, and combined doubles. These were: Miss Gordon, 1888; Miss Nunnelley, 1899. 1900. 1901, 1902; Miss Courtis, 1921; Miss Lance. 1922; Miss Speirs, 1925. H. A. Parker achieved a similar distinction in the men’s section in 1903, 1904 and 1905. Miss K. M. Nunnelley has thirteen consecutive wins to her credit, from 1895 to 1907 inclusive Latest Visitors.
