ACCIDENTS ON RELIEF WORK.
COUNCIL LIABLE FOR COMPENSATION. By Te.-_3rapll—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, January 23. Reserved judgment of the Arbitration Court in a claim for compensation made by John Frederick Vogel, a relief worker, against the Paparua County Council, was given in favour of the plaintiff. The case was heard in December. It was of general interest, since it dealt with the responsiblities of local bodies in the matter of compensation for injury suffered by men given work under unemployment relief The Court held that plaintiff, who was receiving 12/6 a day for three days a week, was entitled to compensation on average weekly earnings of 37/6 per week, notwithstanding that he had to stand down one week in four.
