PAREORA.

COMPLIMENTARY DANCE. To celebrate the winning of the junior banner, the Pareora junior football team held a most successful dance in the hall last Friday night. Music supplied by the local orchestra added to the enjoyment of dancing, while Mr E. Lange made an efficient M.C. During the supper interval, Mr Nelson, president of the Football Club congratulated the team on their win and their splendid display of football during the season. He gave a few words of advice and encouragement to the lower teams. Mr Hoskins, in the absence of an official member of the Rugby Union, presented to the captain of the team the banner won by them. Mr A. Munro also congratulated the teams, and said that it gave him much pleasure to hand to their captain the Munro Cup given by him for competition among the local teams. Mr A. Thompson, captain, in accepting both the banner and cup, said team had just cause to be proud of their win. The Pareora players would always endeavour to uphold the highest traditions of the football field. During the evening Mr A. Munro took took the opportunity to present to Mr Hoskins, headmaster of the school, a handsome cup donated by his son, Mr R. G. Munro for competition among the school football players. This cup is to be given to the most improved player during the season and to oe held by him for one year. Mr Hoskins thanked Mr Munro for the interest his son had taken in the school, and also for the cup. Cheers for the doners of trophies and for the teams closed a very pleasant function. CRICKET. During the week end a friendly cricket match was played between Harding’s eleven, and the Pareora team. Pareora batted first, the scores being —Pareora 77 for 7 wickets declared; Harding’s 80 for 5 wickets. Heavy rain set in during the afternoon and play had to cease. PERSONAL. Mrs Smith, who was the guest of her daughter, Mrs P. D. Sinclair, has returned to Dunedin.
