OPENS WITH WESTERN ELECTRIC The Regent, Timarn’s magnificent new picture theatre, is equipped with the Western Electric Sound System, in line with the foremost theatres of the world. The theatre is a milestone in the progress of the town, and we wish to congratulate Messrs J. C. Williamson Ltd. on their enterprise in supplying the people of Timaru with such a splendid addition to their places of entertainment, and particularly for equipping it with the Western Electric System—the ultimate in talking picture reproduction. This world famous reproducing apparatus delivers sound in natural, nndistorted tones. It reproduces faithfnlly the range of sound frequencies which give instruments and voices their distinctive qualities. From the hushed voice of a child to the blare of a military band, each note is reproduced with a clearness which rivals the original. The success of Western Electric apparatus in the theatre is partly accounted for by the fact that the majority of all film now recorded in the studios is by the Western Electric New Process Noiseless Recording. So far only Western Electric approaches the ideal of perfect talkies. This is why the managements of over 8,000 of the world’s leading theatres (105 in New Zealand) are showing talking pictures over the Western Electric Sound System.
