WOOL PROSPECTS BRIGHT. Commenting on the wool position, Whitcombe and Carson, Limited, the well-known Amsterdam auctioneering firm, state that any doubts which consumers may have had regarding the maintenance of wool values on the Improved levels seen over the past six to seven weeks now appear to be dispelled A more general demand for the staple than that recently experienced has never been noticeable. The Continent appeared less assured regarding the soundness of the rise when it eventuated than any other quarter, but France, Germany, Italy and Belgium have of late bought with special vigour, French millmen taking particularly large quantities of the raw material. If, as is confidently anticipated, Inquiry for the staple continues constantly keen from April to July, the wool marketing stores of the world will be more bare of stocks than they have been for some years. The remark has been frequently heard that it is a pity that Australia has not more of the current clip to sell, in view of the improved prices now ruling. But it is largely because supplies are getting close to exhaustion that values have risen. It is a question of buying or doing without raw material until the new clip arrives, and no shipments of it can reach the British Isles or the Continent before next October. Australia and all other producing countries have met the market, have encouraged business by doing so, and have paved the way for the eager absorption of the coming clip. That is one reason why wool values have shown a better and more sustained advance than almost all other of the world's great primary products. DAIRY PRODUCE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following cablegram from their London house:— New Zealand butter, 111/- to 112/-. Cheese. —White 51/- to 52/-, coloured 53/- to 55/-; market slow.
