He is still a few hours ahead of AirCommodore Kingsford Smith’s record. Mr Scott spent the previous night at Victoria Point, and left Singapore for Palambang in the afternoon. He also set up a record for the longest flight ever made in a light aeroplane, Flight-Lieutenant Benkey having held the previous record for a flight from England to Capetown in 1927. Hinkler took fifteen flying days against Miss Johnson’s sixteen flying days.
