Before commencing the business of the meeting, the chairman referred to the success gained by the School team, in their victories over Waitaki High School and St. Andrews College. Mr Wood considered some recognition should be made of the team’s success. It w'as decided, on the motion of Messr Cave and Mcßeath, that a letter of congratulation be sent to the Rector of the School. The Match Committee reported that the various competitions had resulted as follows: Bristol Cup.—Won by the Timaru ! Club. First grade competition.—Timaru ! winners, with Celtic runners-up. Second grade.—Fairview winners; j Pareora runners-up. Third grade.—Star winners; .Old Boys, runners-up. Mr Wood also congratulated ! the Fairview and Star Club’s on their 1 success. It was decided, on the motion of ' Messrs Grant and Mason, that the Association’s congratulations be conveyed to winning teams. The Match Committee asked that the Old Boys team’s attention be drawn to the breach of rules which had occurred in the Old Boys and School B match. In this match, Old Boys had directed the School team to follow on, although the required lead on the first innings had not been obtained. The Committee had awarded the Old Boys team only a five-point win. Mr Grant (chairman of the Match Committee), pointed out that apparently both teams were in ignorance of the rules governing the follow-on. Mr Mason moved that the Committee’s recommendation be agreed to. Mr Mcßeath, in seconding the motion, said that as competitions were being keenly contested, it behoved the Association to allow no team any latitude in regard to the non-observance of the rules. The motion was carried unanimously. The Match Committee recommended that the Committee put forward at the annual meeting that the championship points for all grades be—four points for an outright win, three points for a win on the first innings, two points for a draw, and one point for a loss on the first innings. Mr Grant speaking in support of the recommendation, said that in the second and third grade competition, the present system of scoring points had not proved very satisfactory. The eight points scored for an outright win j were out of all proportion. Mr Cave, in moving that the Com- ! mittee's recommendation be agreed to, 1 said that the system proposed had ' proved satisfactory in the Waikato Association’s competitions. Mr Fawcett, in seconding the ) motion, said he had seen the proposed ! system carired out, and it had given satisfaction. The Committee’s recommenation, if adopted by the Management Committee, would allow the clubs 1 ample time to give the question consideration before the anual meeting, i Messrs Mason and Mcßeath spoke in support of the motion, which was car- j ried unanimously. It was agreed that a player, to be 1 considered in the averages, must have played ten inning’s or taken fifteen ' wickets. Publication of the averages was left ■ to the secretary to arrange.
