MAUI POMARE.
LOSING £2OOO A TRIP. ' 7 Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, April 9. A statement regarding the running of the Maui Pomare was received from the Prime Minister by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. Mr Forbes stated that the vessel had been run at a loss during the past year and that it was the intention of the Government to operate the Maui Pomare unless or until a service was produced by private enterprise. “The Government must be losing about £2OOO per trip. The ship is carrying only about 25 per cent, of her load each time,” said Mr Harvey Turner, in proposing that the letter be received.
