A special appeal is being made to farmers and threshing mill contractors this season to exercise greater care and eliminate thistle heads from the oats. Southland oats have acquired an unfortunate reputation in the past on account of this defect, and purchasers have been inclined to neglect grain from this province. Various suggestions have been put forward with a view to removing thistle heads, and it is hoped that satisfactory results will be obtained. The quantity of wheat grown in Southland this season is much lets than usual, and the majority of the crops of this grain are to be found in the Winton district. Unfortunately, those farmers who did sow down areas of wheat in this locality have been unfortunate in having their crops attacked by rust, and in some instances the crops will not be worth threshing. This is particularly unfortunate as the crops have shown exceptional promise. The Director of the Dairy Division in the March issue of the New Zealand Journal of Agriculture gives particulars of the certificate of record testing for pedigree dairy cows in 1930. One of the greatest problems to-day for mothers is the increasing prevalence of worms in children. Invariably the symptoms of their presence are bad breath, grinding of the teeth, itching nose, stomach pains, and disordered bowels. Worms will do a great deal of mischief to a child’s constitution if not checked. The easiest and most efficient remedy to give children is Ayres’ Chocolate Worm Tablets. Children like taking these chocolate tablets as much as they like eating sweets. Buy chocolate worm tablets (price 2/-) at E. C. Ayres’ Ltd., chemists, Stafford Street South, Timaru CHRONIC CONSTIPATION. Sir Arbuthnot Lane,' the famous British physician, says that people with a pure blood stream will live much longer than those whose blood is poisoned by the toxins caused by constipation. Boils, pimples, indigestion, gastric ulcers, appendicitis, are often due to chronic constipation. The use of harsh purgatives gives only a temporary relief; they are hab't-forming and dangerous. If you are constipated take Laxigen. This is a natural, gentle laxative that will restore the bowels to their natural wave-like movement. Laxigen is obtainable at 2/6 bottle from E. C. Ayres, Ltd., chemists, Stafford Street South, Timaru
