When the Queen was watching a dress parade at the Albert Hall, in connection with a section of the British Industries Fair, her Majesty saw some very long dresses with wide flares, and after looking she remarked that such dresses must be rather difficult to wear for anyone not expert in the art of managing her clothes. Her personal preference was for gowns not too long, but of medium length. It was understood that she meant by this gowns which reached to the ankle. Several of the models shown had a long skirt and a tight bodice. Her Majesty was much interested in these, and remarked that they were inspired by the Italian renaissance period. All the new spring colours —hyacinth blue, lagoon blue, cactus and willow green, burnt almond, and prunella—had been employed in delightful dresses of artificial silk and velvet. Some of these dresses were worn cut extremely low at the back. It is announced that the King and Queen have officially approved the Court designs submitted to them by Reville, to be worn at the four Buckingham Palace presentations during May and June —May 19th, ZDth, June 9th, 10th.
