Mrs William Raymond, Nile Street, who is on a visit to Christchurch, is expected home to-day. Mrs Stone-Wigg, Waihi School, Winchester, will leave to-morrow on a visit to Hawera. Miss Lucy Huddleston, North Street, returned on Saturday from a visit to Miss Huddleston, Blenheim. Mrs Milne, who was the guest of her sister, Miss Murdoch, Latter Street, has returned to Dunedin. Miss Cushla Macassey. Dunedin, who I has been spending some weeks with Mrs Timaru Rhodes. Hadlow, will return to Dunedin to-day. Miss Nancy Whitehead, who had been spending a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs P. E. Whitehead, Harper Street, returned to Wellington on Saturday. The Rev. E. C. Crosse and Mrs Crosse, Christchurch, arrived yesterday at Waihi School, Winchester. Mr Crosse will be headmaster of the school during the absence of Mr J. L. Stone-Wigg in England. Mr and Mrs F. M. Dennehv and their twin boys (Greymouth), and Miss Dennehy (Timaru), who are visiting Europe, were, when the last English mail left, staying at Nice. They intended leaving Nice on February 14th for Genoa and Rome, where they would spend several weeks. The cabaret held at the Broadway on Saturday evening was very much enjoyed by those present. The large room looked charming with its colourings of cherry, gold and black. Masses of gold and orange flowers decorated the tables and alcoves. Many popular numbers were recorded and Mr Fred Edney played several extras. The officers of s.s. Somerset entertained Timaru friends, and many visitors were present. The informal dance on Wednesay last also was greatly enjoyed. News from London record the marriage of that daring New Zealand air ace, Squadron-Leader Charles Roderick Carr, of the Royal Air Force. His pretty bride was Miss Phyllis Elkington, of Red Lodge, Amersham, Nottinghamshire, who has distant connections in New Zealand. The ceremony took place at the Chapel Royal, Savoy, in the Strand, one of London’s fashionable altars. The news that Princess Elizabeth recently had a kilted skirt of the Royal Stuart tartan added to her wardrobe has revived the vogue of tartan skirts in Scotland. The fashion had practically died out, hving even been given up by the factory girls who adopted it after it had grown into disfavour with the more affluent. It is now coming into its own again for the small girls of Caledonia. After an absence of three years in England. Lady Bective, wife of the Earl of Bective, is expected shortly to visit Australia on a business trip to Inspect the sheep stations in the Scone district and in Queensland belonging to her second son, Ernest. This fortunate youth is one of the youngest and biggest stud farmers in the world, having owned a station property at the age of 12 months. Lady Bective, whose departure was announced in the English Press for early February, is a wonderful judge of cattle. The flair is a natural one, and she was often called on by her first husband, the late Sir Rupert Clarke, one of Victoria’s wealthiest landowners, to look over the cattle he contemplated purchasing. This interesting personality will spend only about three weeks in Australia altogether,, so her native city (she was Miss Elsie Tucker), Sydney, will see little of her. She is an all-round sportswoman, drives her own car, is a wonderful shot, and during her visits to her chaeau on the Riviera handles her own speed boat. LATEST VISITORS. At the Grosvenor.—Mrs J. R.
