CANADIAN WHEAT INDUSTRY.
Compulsory Pool Opposed. FARMERS FORM ASSOCIATION. United Pres® Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 20, 5.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, March 19. Opposing the compulsory wheat pool, six hundred Regina farmers have formed an association to be extended throughout the province for the June plebiscite, authorised by the Provincial Government. A message received on March 5 stated: The Manitoba Free Press says the appointment of a Royal Commission to inquire into grain marketing by the Federal Government has been decided upon. It is learned on excellent authority, the newspaper says, that the three paramount problems to be investigated arc as follows: Should the grain exchange be retained or abolished? If it is retained, should trading in futures be continued? Would the establishment of a 100 per cent, pool be conductive to more orderly marketing, and be more satisfactory than the grain exchange and pool method? Five hundred wheat-growers, including many members of the pool, have sent a protest against the proposed compulsory wheat pool to the Prime Minister, Mr R. B. Bennett. A meeting at Killarney refused to permit Mr R. F. Chkpman, director of the Manitoba pool, to speak in favour of compulsion.
