HARRIER CLUB NOTES

Methodist Harriers had their opening run last Saturday, when thirty Members participated in a six-mile run. There was a good attendance for the first run. Anglican Harriers held their amiual meeting on Wednesday last, and will be making a start shortly. They should do well this year. Timaru Harrier Club's annual meeting was down for the 18th inst. The veteran Club ought to have a more flourishing membership this year.

Baptist Harriers will be a weak Club this year compared to last season, as seven of their best men are going to Training College. We will miss runners such as Holmes, Anderson and Geddes, and it remains for remaining members of the Club to rally round and strengthen their position for the coming season.

W. McPhedran ran strongly last Saturday to take first place in the Methodist Club's run, followed closely by L. Wilson and R. Vincent. Some promising runners apeared in the slow pack, F. Moore, a newcomer, having a good style and finish, and W. Chiles, who ran third to Moore, is another newcomer who should perform well in the coming season. D. Dingwall secured second place.

The Methodist Harriers looked well in their new running costumes of royal blue singlets and white shorts, and these should be more distinguishable than the old all white costume.

Civil Service Club, Dunedin, are having a relay from Dunedin to Timaru at Easter. The first day they are to ruri to Oamaru, where they will stay the night, and finish the run to Timaru on the following day. No wonder this Club carried off the honours in the Temuka to Timaru Road Race last season.

This afternoon the Methodist Club are to run from the residence of Mr. P. Metson, Livingstone Street. Members, however, will meet at Home’s store, Church Street at 2.15.

REPROOFING MACKINTOSHES. There is no need to discard a mackintosh merely because it has ceased to be waterproof. You can reproof it yourself at home in the following way. Dissolve a quarter of a pound of lump alum in two gallons of hot water, stirring it well. Immerse the mackintosh in this solution, leaving it to soak for a few minutes, and then hang it out of doors in a dripping condition. It should not be wrung or squeezed.
