MOTOR TAXATION.
“HORSE POWER BASIS FANTASTIC.’’ By Telegraph—Press Association HAWERA, March 20. Referring to the Hon. G. W. Forbes’s statement that the Government has not yet considered the question of imposing a horse-power motor tax, Mr W. O’Callaghan, president of the North Island Motor Union, says the idea of such a tax in New Zealand is too fantastic to merit consideration. It had been a colossal failure in England. Mr O’Callaghan’s opinion is that Mr Forbes realises that motorists generally already were taxed to the limit of their means and patience.
