ATHLETICS.

ANGLICAN HARRIERS. The annual meeting of the Timaru Anglican Harrier Club was held on Wednesday evening, when the president (Rev. W. Southward), presided over a record attendance. The secretary (Mr R. J. Taylor), presented the annual report and balance sheet. The report stated that the past season was a very successful one from a membership point of view, the average attendance at the weekly runs being 14 members. A comprehensive syllabus, was compiled, which showed a total of 23 runs, 14 of which were invitation runs. At the Canterbury championship, which was held over the Cashmere course, on August 16th, the Club was represented by a team of five members, also with one member in the South Canterbury representative team, G. Broadhead. All acquitted themselves very creditably, both as a team and individually. The Temuka to Timaru annual road race, which was held on July 12th. created a great amount of interest amongst members, and was gradually becoming one of the Harrier classic events of the South Island. Club members performed very creditably, G. Broadhead gaining ninth place, also wining the Mayor’s trophy for being the first unplaced South Canterbury man home. A Craig gained fourth place in the sealed handicap with G. Valentine eighth, and D. Riddler tenth. All ran very meritorious races. The Orr-Walker Cup race was run on July 26th, with the club's team performing very creditably, and G. Broadhead gaining first place. The club championship was held on August 23rd, over a twelve mile course to Holme Station, via Beaconsfleld, and resulted in a victory for R. J. Taylor, with D. Riddler second; R. J. Tayloiwon the sealed handicap, with A. Craig second. The trophy for the race was Mr A. S. Elworthy’s championship cup. The club held two dances, one at the beginning and one at the close of the season, both being pronounced a success. At the break-up dance, Mr P. Wisker, the Club’s official trainer, was presented with a framed, enlarged photograph of the members of the club for his fine support to the club. The secretary thanked all who had helped financially and donated trophies. Appreciation was also due to those who kindly lent cars on necessary occasions.

The president, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, said that the club had done very well. Mr H. R. Preston seconded the motion, which was carried.

Before vacating the chair, the president thanked all who had assisted the club during the season. He eulogised the work of the secretary, Mr R. J. Taylor, also that of the retiring committee.

The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr A. S. Elworthy; president, Rev. T. Williams; vice-presidents, Messrs G. B. Lamborn, F. Cave, J. H. Taylor, H. D. Preston. A. Oborn, R. Simpson, W. H. Foden, W. D. Revell, G. Andrews, Rev. F. C. Lawrence, Ven. Archdeacon Monaghan, Rev. W. Southward, H. Berry, B. Clark, Riddler, Broadhead, Bryant-King; cup captain, G. Broadhead; deputy captain, A. Craig: committee, Messrs H. R. Preston, C. F. Berry, G. R. Valentine, S. McDougall; official coach, Mr P. Wisker; club handicappers, Messrs P. Wisker, and G. Broadhead; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr F. Trott. The following new members were elected: —Messrs V. Hadley, F. Trott, Rev. Williams, B. Clark, Porter, Simpson.

It was decided that the club hold its opening run on the 11th April, and to hold an informal run on 21st of March from St. Mary’s Hall.
