GOLD “DIVINER”.
COMMITTED FOR XttlAL. By Telegraph—Press Association PALMERSTON N., March 19. Edward Ralph Martin, described as a miner born in Alaska, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with having, with intent to defraud by falsely representing that he was a qualified geologist and an experienced miner, obtained from Samuel James Rossiter £25; also by falsely stating that he was a qualified geologist and miner, and had located gold in considerable quantities at Tokomaru, he obtained £2O from William Gordon Simpson. Detective Barling gave evidence that he was introduced to accused as Professor Martin, the man who discovered gold at Tokomaru. Martin said mining was in his blood, and could absolutely smell gold. Evidence was given by Rossiter, Simpson and others regarding accused’s representations concerning the claims at Tokomaru. Accused was committed for trial at the Supreme Court. Bail was allowed.
