The Storm arrived yesterday morning from Port Chalmers, to load » general cargo for Wellington and Wanganui. She sailed in the afteri noon for Lyttelton. The Breeze, of , the same fleet, is due to-day from Oamaru for similar loading; while the Gale, on the Wellington, Picton and Wanganui run, is listed to arrive on * Thursday from Port Chalmers. The Holmdale Is set down to call here from Oamaru on Thursday, for Wellington and Wanganui loading. The John is expected to arrive the following day from Dunedin, when she is to load for Wellington. New Plymouth and Waikato Heads. The Kahika is scheduled to arrive on Sunday morning from Oamaru. On Monday the vessel is to commence Wellington, Napier and Gisborne loading, sailing the same day for Lyttelton. The Waimarino is expected to load Wellington and Auckland cargo at Timaru on March 20th. The motor vessel Port Waikato is due to reach Timaru on March 21st from Dunedin. Her loading ports are Tauranga, Whangarel and Dargaville, via Lyttelton. The Waikoualtl Is listed to leave Dunedin to-day for Sydney, via Blull and Lyttelton, and is expected to load on the other side for New Zealand ports, including Timaru. Overseas. The Tairoa, which loaded frozen meat, wool and general cargo for the Homeland at Timaru, was despatched at 8 o'clock yesterday morning for Wellington. The Port Alma, It is expected, win complete loading frozen meat, wool and general cargo for England to-day, and sail for Lyttelton. The Canadian Highlander is expected to arrive to-morrow from Lyttelton to discharge Canadian and Amerlcar general cargo. Under favourable conditions, the vessel will load for Boston New York and Montreal, and sail the same night for Dunedin. The Shaw, Savill steamer Maimos is set down to call here on Tuesdaj from the south, to commence Homeward loading. The Somerset sailed from Londor on January 30th, for Lyttelton, Pori Chalmers, Timaru, New Plymouth an< Nelson. She is due at Timaru or March 19th. The Cornwall is due at Timan about March 26th, to load meat anc general cargo for London and Continental ports. She sails finally, vii Panama, on April 13th. The Orari is to leave Liverpool oi March 14th, for Auckland, Wellington Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin. The Ruahine, which left Wellingtoi on February 28th, with passengers am cargo for Home, reports by wireles that since leaving Wellington moder ate weather has been experienced. A] are well on board. The second of the two motor cargi liners which Alexander Stephen am Sons, Glasgow, are building for th New Zealand Shipping Company, wa launched on January 20th (reports th "Syren and Shipping”). The vessel the Opawa, is a sister ship of th Orari. launched from the same yar on October 23rd, and also of th Barrow-built Otaio, which was deliver ed towards the end of last year. Th Opawa is 490 ft in length overall, 671 in moulded breadth, 40ft in depti moulded to the upper deck, and o 9750 tons gross register; she is of th two-deck type, with poop and Ion; bridge. Six holds offer large space fo the carriage of bulk, general and re frigerated cargo, and the deadweigh capacity is about 12,300 tons. Th cargo-handling appliances are of th most modem description, and all th deck auxiliaries are electrically oper ated. The propelling machinery fo the twin screws consists of two sets o single-acting Sulzer-Diesel engine.' each developing about 4700 h.p. at 12 r.p.m. They are being constructed h the engineering department at Lint house, whereas those of the Orari wer supplied from the Winterthur-work of Sulzer Brothers.
